The puzzle of the day

When does a new puzzle come out?

At midnight, your time. The website uses your device's date, so everyone gets Saturday's puzzle on their own Saturday.

Why is today's puzzle Decaf (or Regular)?

The website's week has a set menu: Monday to Wednesday is a Decaf Cup (7×7, blanks shown), Thursday and Friday a Regular Cup (blanks hidden), Saturday a Decaf Pot (9×9) and Sunday a Regular Pot. Each week starts gentle and builds to Sunday.

Can I play a day I missed?

Yes, any day of the current week: tap it in the strip above the puzzle. The app keeps a calendar of every past day.

Is it the same puzzle as the app's Daily Plingles?

No. The website's puzzle of the day is its own puzzle, and the app has three more every day (a Sip, a Cup and a Pot), so playing one never spoils the other.

Does my progress save?

Yes, in this browser on this device. Your letters, time and solved days are kept in the browser's own storage, and nothing is sent to us. A private window, or clearing the site's data, starts you over.

Can I share my result?

When you solve it, press Share. It copies your time (or opens your phone's share sheet) with no letters in it, so it won't spoil the puzzle for anyone.

Playing

How do I play?

Every row and column's clue is its letters, jumbled. Find the words that fit across and down at the same time. There's a short walkthrough on the How to play page.

Is there really only one answer?

Yes. Every puzzle is checked by a solver before it ships to make sure it has exactly one solution, and that you can reach it by reasoning, without guessing. That includes Regular, where the blanks are hidden.

What words can be in the grid?

Common English words in American spelling, from a curated word list. No names, abbreviations or crude words. Some puzzles use two-letter words like AT, OF or UP.

I've filled every square but it isn't solved.

At least one letter is wrong. Press Check to mark the wrong squares. In Decaf, a red clue also tells you which line has a letter it doesn't have. In Regular, blank marks don't matter: only the letters do.

Where does the name come from?

Plingles is SPELLING with its letters jumbled, which is exactly what the game asks you to undo.

The app

When is the app out?

Plingles is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. This page will link to both when it's out.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free to play with optional ads. Ads only appear between puzzles, never during one, and videos for hints are always your choice.

What does Remove Ads do?

It's a single, one-time purchase. It removes the ads between puzzles and makes Checks unlimited. Hint videos stay available, since you choose when to watch one. There are no subscriptions.

I bought Remove Ads on a new phone. How do I get it back?

Open Settings in the game and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple or Google account you bought it with.

Do I need an account or the internet?

No account, and no sign-in. The app plays offline. Ads need a connection, so without one you just won't see them.

Will my streak move to a new phone?

Not yet. Progress is stored on your phone, so a new phone starts fresh. Uninstalling the game deletes its progress too.

Is there a dark theme, or settings for accessibility?

Yes. Settings has Light roast and Dark roast themes (or follow your phone), colorblind-friendly error marks, reduced motion, haptics, a choice of clue lettering, and a timer you can hide.

Privacy

What do you collect?

The website collects nothing: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics. The app shows ads through ad partners, who may collect device data as described in the privacy policy, where you'll also find how to change your choices.
